The South African rand has lost all its gains made in the previous session and is now trading at a level of 15.3000. Global risk-off sentiment is in favour of the USD because of the Ukraine-Russian tension. The predicted trading range for the rand today is between 15.0500 and 15.5500.

The local unit quickly recovered to a level below 15.0000 in yesterday’s session. The short-term technical level is predicted to reach a high of 15.4000. The rand is trading 0.9% weaker against the dollar compared to yesterday’s closing level.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved a special military operation in eastern Ukraine, which the Ukrainians are saying it’s a full-scale invasion. Russia is an important supplier of energy to global customers in Europe and is supplying a quarter of its oil and a third of its gas.
