Rand News Update │ Rand trading at level of 15.80

The South African rand is trading at a level of 15.8000. Yesterday we saw the rand acting very volatile as the demand for the USD surged. The local unit reached its highest level of 15.9400. The predicted trading range for the rand today is between 15.6500 and 16.15000.

The rand will remain under pressure along with most of the other emerging market currencies. The next technical level to reach is still on a level of 16.0000. The declining Turkish lira is also strongly influencing the rand and in return make the dollar stronger.

South African government has requested that Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer delay delivery on their vaccines. The reason for this is that the country’s inoculation drive. There are only 35% of South Africans vaccinated which is half of the government’s year-end target.
