Rand News Update │ Rand is stable at level of 15.3000

The South African rand is trading stable at a level of 15.3000. It is showing some improvement below that level as the market focus is now shifting on domestic inflation data and the central bank’s monetary policy meeting due this week. The predicted trading range for the rand today is between 15.1500 and 15.6500.

The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) will start its three-day monetary policy committee meeting tomorrow. On the agenda for Thursday is the decision around interest rates. Economists are predicting that the repo rate will be kept unchanged which is at 3.5%. There will also be some focus on the consumer price inflation numbers and retail sales figures which are due on Wednesday.

As of Sunday, 14 November 2021, South Africa has a total of 16 767 active Covid-19 cases. In the previous 24-hour monitoring period, there was a total of 262 new Covid-19 cases reported with a total of 8 deaths. The country’s recovery rate is 96.4%.
